RE: Got our new TC, Looking for advice.

The 19.5 set up did the trick for me. I have the same truck and went from 35s to the Vision 19.5. I think the flex of the tires was the sway I was getting.

RE: Odd ball Winterizing Tricks and Tips

For winterizing I load ski stuff and head to the hills. My favorite time of the year is when I can spend my weekends camping at a ski resort.

RE: 1995 Bigfoot 9.5, good deal?

I would probably offer 5k and see where he goes from there. I haul a newer BF 1500 on a F-250 with airbags and no problems. I also tow a few different trailers easily. I like that model due to the lower COG.

RE: winter camping

It all depends on how cold it will get. I camp in sub-freezing weather all winter and have little or no problem. Check your owners manual for recommendations. Some units just don't do well in freezing temps.

RE: does everyone want an Airstream?

I could afford a Airstream but chose to purchase a different brand due to my camping in freezing weather for extended periods. Look closley at how you intend to use your RV and base your decision on that. I have had high dollar deisel pushers and tents and enjoyed eveything in between. I currently own a truck camper and a small trailer, due to my vast interest one unit wasn't cutting it. Good luck on your descision.

RE: Ski Resorts and Camping Overnight

This winter I will camp most weekends at Crystal Mountain. 2o bucks a night first come first served for power. Most fridays if I am at the resort before 5pm I have a plug in. I also plug in my block heater for my truck and put a small heater in the cab of my truck so when I go to leave on sunday night my cab is toasty. Make sure to bring a shovel and pre level your spot before you back in so your not having to use blocks.

RE: Leaky window need more drain holes?bigfoot

Crack a top vent and that should solve the condensation problem. We camp all winter and if we forget to open a top vent condensation will form heavily on the windows.

RE: Pulling A pop-up trailer w/ TC

I recently purchased a 17 FT trailer to tow behind my TC so my 2 boys can bring friends skiing and on camping adventures. No big deal to tow and it weighs alot less then my quad trailer.

RE: If you MUST have a SRW.......

I just returned from a 25 day trip in Europe and observed hundreds of RVs and failed to spot a single camper. What i did see was hundreds of motohomes with SRW. I followed one down a windy road and it seemed to perform just fine. Im not sure what the logic of all the SRW motorhomes are in Europe but it seems to work for them. I only spotted one DRW motorhome in all of my travels of 7 countries. Lots of small trailers being pulled by unbelivably small cars.

RE: If money were no object... Which TT would you buy?

Money was not an object I considerd when I purchased my 2008 Bigfoot. I looked at evrything available in my market and for how I use my trailer it was the only option that worked.

RE: 19.5" Wheels / Tires

I have a SRW and feel it made the the greatest improvment for my handling. I do have air bags and there are no clearence issue. I don't know if is worth the investment for a DRW since you have much greater capacity with your set up.

RE: How do people with kids do it?

We have a BF that can be tight with 2 young boys. We spend most of our time outside and use the camper for sleeping and eating. We also bring 2 pugs on most of our trips. The dogs cause me way more grief then the boys ever will. For trips when they want to bring friends we have a 17ft BF trailer that we tow behind our camper.

RE: Fuel prices making you change your plans?

I actually sold my boat with the price of fuel to get it to my favorite fishing spot being the big factor. I used to be able to go 4 or 5 times a summer but now the price would be over 500$ per weekend trip, I had to cut somewhere. We will continue to make short trips to the mountains and the local lakes.

RE: Electrical power cord theft

Drug addicts hard at work. I have a fleet of commercial trucks that get plugged in at night with 3 phase cords that cost over 2 bucks a foot and connectors that run around 75 bucks a set. I have tried various ways of preventing theft including hard wiring the cords into the power source. Remember these people are on drugs and will cut a live wire to steal it. We have had several fatalities in our area from stupid criminals trying to steal live wires. One guy even tossed a rope over a live power line to pull it down and sell it for scrap. He got the thrill of his life and is now dead. The only thing that worked for me is to have the least amount of cord visible and have a well lighted area. Here is a news article from our local news that just ran.

RE: Fort Stevens Trip Report

For some good Washington info go here and they have the season info and openings. I always separate the digger section from the neck and use the diggers for frying and grind the neck for fritters or chowder as they are a bit tougher. For Washington we are now closed until the fall.

RE: Fort Stevens Trip Report

Hey, for a novice like me (never done any of this clam hunting before), how does one know where to dig???
Check this out here. I seldom miss a razor clam dig. I got the nickname Clambo due to my enthusiasm for razor clams.

RE: Torklifts installed!

Be aware that all stainless steel items on the outside of a ship/yacht/train/RV will pit and chalk over time if not cared for meticulously!
The bow rails on my 1992 C-Dory have never seen any maintenance other than the normal rinse and wash. I believe it has more to do with the grade of stainless used. I have never taken my truck out on the water for a week in the San Juans.

RE: Torklifts installed!

I like the TL tiedowns but think they could of done a much better job on the finish. Mine are rusted after one season. It appears they weren't primered. When I get a chance I will replace the inserts with home fabricated stainless. The fastguns have rusted as well and require regular cleaning and waxing to look good. I have the stainless fastguns and didn't think I would encounter that problem. I still think they are the best system available, I just wish they had a better finish.

RE: Bigfoot TC's DO get dry rot

I called the factory yesterday for some info for my new trailer and asked them about your problem. I talked to Mark and he was a wealth of information. I suggest you call and ask for him and he can repeat what he told me. My simple question turned into a 15 minute conversation on design and potential problem areas. I personally have never had a problem getting my questions answered when I call the factory. I own 2 BFs and have been happy so far.
